What Is Kitbag?
Kitbag is a wellbeing resource created by the International Futures Forum (IFF) to help children and adults:
• understand emotions
• regulate their nervous system
• build connection
• develop language for feelings
• feel calmer and more grounded
It’s filled with sensory tools, visual supports, and creative prompts that help children express themselves in ways that feel safe and manageable.

Why I Use Kitbag in Sessions
Children often struggle to talk about feelings directly.
Kitbag gives them:
• something to hold
• something to look at
• something to choose
• something to do
This reduces pressure, lowers anxiety, and helps them communicate in their own way.
Kitbag is especially helpful for:
• neurodivergent children
• anxious or overwhelmed children
• children who mask
• children who find talking difficult
• children who need sensory support

What Kitbag Looks Like in a Session
Every child uses Kitbag differently.
Some choose a sensory tool.
Some choose a card.
Some choose nothing at all — and that’s okay.
Here’s how it might show up:
• choosing a feeling colour to show how they’re arriving
• using the calming oil to relax their body
• holding the talking stick for grounding and feeling heard
• using the emotion cards to explore tricky feelings
• choosing a creature to talk about something indirectly
• using the mindful moments to settle their body
Kitbag helps children feel in control of the pace and direction of the session.

How Kitbag Helps Children
Parents often tell me that Kitbag:
• makes emotions feel less scary
• helps their child open up
• gives them language for feelings
• reduces overwhelm
• builds confidence
• supports sensory needs
• helps them regulate at home
It’s a gentle, non‑intrusive way to support emotional development.

Kitbag in Family Sessions
Parents often find Kitbag helpful too.
It gives you:
• a shared language with your child
• tools you can use at home
• a calmer way to talk about big feelings
• a way to connect without pressure
Sometimes I model how to use Kitbag so you can take the ideas home.
Do You Need Your Own Kitbag?
No — not at all.
I have everything we need in the session space.
Some families choose to buy one later, but there is absolutely no expectation.
